The Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians has named Fred J. Pettid, MD of Omaha, Nebraska as the 2010 Nebraska Family Physician of the Year. The Family Physician of the Year award is given annually to a Nebraska Family Physician who exemplifies a compassionate commitment to improving the health and well being of the people and communities throughout
Dr. Pettid, a board certified family physician, has been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians/Nebraska Chapter since 1971. As the 2010 Nebraska Family Physician of the Year, Dr. Pettid becomes a candidate for the American Academy of Family Physicians' 2012 Family Physician of the Year award.
Dr. Pettid received letters of support from his patients praising him for his dedication. He authored multiple publications, including a textbook he co-authored with Dr. Lonnie Mercier "Practical Orthopedics" Seventh Edition, which he dedicated to students and residents in family practice. A consulting staff physician at Creighton Memorial St. Joseph, Bergan Mercy, Children's Memorial and Methodist Hospitals in Omaha, Dr. Pettid was Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Creighton from 1978-1983. He has been responsible for more than 350 hours of post-graduate education of family physicians and awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Clinical Physician at Creighton in 1982. Currently, Dr. Pettid has the rank of Associate Professor of Family Practice with tenure at Creighton. He was the first resident graduated from Family Practice, Creighton Memorial St. Joseph Hospital. He is a Century Member of the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Pettid has been affiliated with many medical societies.
